For years, I’ve been fascinated (and sometimes frustrated!) by the way managers can completely shape the experience of work. I’ve seen the damage that poor management can do—people leaving jobs they once loved, teams feeling undervalued, and toxic cultures taking hold. But I’ve also experienced the opposite: managers who genuinely cared, who listened, supported, and inspired. They made me want to show up and give my best.

Those experiences stayed with me, and I couldn’t shake one question: what makes the real difference between a great manager and a poor one? That question became the seed for my CARE Model—and eventually for my book, All You Have to Do is Care: What Great People Managers Do Differently.
